Bubbly Cranberry Orange Mocktail (Cosmo-Inspired)

Cranberry is such a versatile flavor for cocktails and mocktails alike. It’s strong yet tart, pairs well with supporting ingredients, and feels festive during the holidays while still being enjoyable year-round.

This bubbly cranberry mocktail is inspired by the classic cosmo, one of my all-time favorite cocktails.

Per Merriam-Webster, a cosmopolitan is defined as “having wide international sophistication.” The cocktail mirrors that meaning with its bright, complex flavors — and this cranberry cosmo mocktail does too.

What it lacks in hard liquor, it makes up for with character (and bubbles). It’s sweet yet tart, never watery (a common issue with cranberry drinks), and its deep ruby hue makes it as pretty as it is refreshing.

If you’re looking for a drink to serve during the holidays, at an event, or even at a casual brunch, this mocktail strikes the perfect balance between sophistication and approachability.

Ingredients

You’ll need a few different ingredients to make this mocktail (replacing vodka is a tall order, after all).

All ingredients for the cranberry cosmo mocktail lined up on a countertop, including syrups, cranberry juice, lime, vinegar, ginger beer, and sparkling water.

Unsweetened Cranberry Juice

Most importantly, use a high-quality unsweetened cranberry juice — and make sure it’s not from concentrate.

Avoid cranberry juice cocktail, which is unfortunately the easiest to find around the holidays (hello, Ocean Spray). Cranberry juice cocktail has added sugar to offset the natural tartness of cranberry, and while it’s tasty on its own, it will make this mocktail far too sweet.

I used Trader Joe’s brand, but Knudsen is another high-quality option available at select grocery stores and online (including Amazon/Whole Foods).

Cranberry & Orange Syrup

This recipe uses both cranberry and orange syrup.

  • Cranberry syrup adds sweetness and depth, amplifying the cranberry flavor.
  • Orange syrup helps mimic the orange liqueur that’s typically used in a classic cosmo.

I like Monin brand since it’s high-quality yet affordable (and most importantly, available on Amazon!).

Fresh Lime Juice

Fresh lime juice is essential. Lime is a key component of a cosmo, and here it helps balance the sweetness from the syrups.

And yes — fresh vs. bottled citrus really does make a difference in cocktails and mocktails, so try to squeeze your own limes.

Apple Cider Vinegar

You’ll only need a tiny amount, but don’t skip it. Apple cider vinegar adds complexity and acidity, giving the drink the subtle “bite” you’d expect from a cocktail.

Ginger Beer

Ginger beer is one of my favorite secret mocktail ingredients. Even though ginger isn’t a dominant flavor here, a small splash adds both bubbles and bite.

I like Fever-Tree for its balance of sweetness and spice, but use your preferred brand.

Sparkling Water

While a traditional cosmo isn’t bubbly, mocktails often need a little extra lift. Sparkling water makes the drink feel celebratory and helps round out the concentrated flavors in this recipe.

Once you have everything ready, the mocktail comes together quickly: shake the non-bubbly ingredients with ice, strain into a coupe or cocktail glass, and top with your sparkling components (chilled).

Instructions

  • Add cranberry juice, cranberry and orange syrup, fresh lime juice, and apple cider vinegar to a cocktail shaker with ice.
  • Shake for 5-10 seconds, then strain into a coupe or cocktail glass.
  • Top with ginger beer and sparkling water.***

Notes

*Use unsweetened cranberry juice (not from concentrate) for best results. Cranberry juice cocktail (like the popular Ocean Spray brand) has added sugar and will make the drink too sweet.
**Fever-Tree brand is preferred for ginger beer.
***You can adjust the amount of bubbly ingredients to taste. Just keep in mind that adding more ginger beer will make the ginger flavor more pronounced.

Serving Tips

Presentation is everything, especially with mocktails. Here are a few ideas to make this drink feel every bit as special as a real cosmo.

Glassware

Fancy glassware elevates any drink, so serve this cranberry mocktail in something beautiful.

This recipe yields about six ounces, which fits well in most coupe glasses. I love using coupes for bubbly drinks because they instantly feel celebratory. My colored coupe that’s shown here is from the Target dollar section, while my go-to gold-rimmed set is available on Amazon.

You can also serve this mocktail in a champagne flute, or over ice in a rocks or highball glass.

Garnish

For a festive garnish that ties into the drink’s flavors, float a dehydrated orange slice and a few fresh cranberries on top.

You can also skewer sugared cranberries on a cocktail pick for extra sparkle.

Looking to make it even more holiday-worthy? A pinch of edible glitter is always a fun touch.

Mixing in Advance

Want to batch this mocktail ahead of time?

Stir together all the non-bubbly ingredients in a large pitcher or drink dispenser, then refrigerate until serving time. Add the sparkling components right before pouring to keep the bubbles crisp.
